Patriots Acquire Josh Gordon For 5th Round Pick

The Cleveland Browns trade Josh Gordon to the New England Patriots

After putting the rest of the National Football League on notice that Josh Gordon was available for trade a few days ago, the Cleveland Browns announced that Gordon has now been traded to the New England Patriots.

Josh Gordon could be staying in the AFC following his departure from Cleveland after all.

Gordon has loads of talent, and at just 27 years old, should still have plenty in the tank in New England.

Gordon also had interest in the Cowboys and 49ers. In a statement released prior to training camp, Gordon revealed he was "doing great" both physically and mentally, and "excited to start the season".

Gordon caught a game-tying 17-yard touchdown pass in the Browns' Week 1 tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers, his lone catch of the game.

In 2013, Gordon, a former second-round pick, had 87 catches for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns, despite playing with quarterbacks Jason Campbell and Brandon Weeden. Availability has been Gordon's biggest issue, with the receiver missing all of 2015 and 2016 due to suspension and returning for the final five games of 2017. In 41 career games in the NFL, Gordon has 180 receptions and 16 touchdowns.

Perhaps a fourth-round pick was too high of a risk for San Francisco, and a sixth wasn't enough for the Browns who were getting a fifth from New England.

He sat out the first 11 games a year ago before returning for Cleveland's final five games, and caught 18 passes for 335 yards and one touchdown. The Patriots gave up a conditional 5th rounder for Gordon, according to Schefter.
