Tiger wakes up the echoes with best major final round

Gary Woodland tops the leaderboard after a 64

With Woods charging and with playing partner Adam Scott making a move, he didn't budge.

The 2017 and 2018 U.S. Open Champion added the 2018 PGA Championship to his trophy case with a 66 on Sunday to post 16-under, beating Woods by two and Scott by three.

"The crowds here, they let you know what's going on", Koepka said with a big grin.

Another said: "Tiger Woods has his swagger back!"

"Not just myself, but everyone's going to have to shoot low rounds", Woods said.

"It was a struggle, I found a little bit of something on the back nine and I made a bit of a run", said Woods.

"I was pretty ticked at the British Open", he said of his performance at Carnoustie, where he finished three strokes behind victor Francesco Molinari.

Koepka was responsible for that.

A bogey at 14 made things hard for Woods, and despite bouncing back with a birdie at 15, when he struggled to a par five at the 17 he needed a miracle.

For the third round in succession Woods looked set to bogey the hard par-four 10th hole, which plays as a par five for the members, when he could only hack out from heavy rough to the right of the fairway.

Brooks Koepka has a two-shot lead at the PGA Championship as he tries to become only the fifth player in history to win the U.S. Open and PGA Championship in the same year. Of his four PGA Tour wins, three are majors.

He parred every hole on the back nine and his 66 matched his lowest round in a major this year, but he was a little disappointed, not least with a three-putt at the par-five 17th.

Unai Emery confirms new Arsenal captain
Arsenal signed experienced Switzerland global Stephan Lichtsteiner in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus. Emery faced Pep Guardiola regularly when they were in charge of Valencia and Barcelona respectively.

From grinding out pars and turning disgusting tee shots into unlkikely birdies to deadly accuracy with approaches and putts, the 42-year-old star who hasn't won a major since the 2008 US Open turned back the clock.

Brooks Koepka proved peerless en route to securing his second major of the year, winning the PGA Championship by two shots at the Bellerive Country Club in St Louis. How many men get to say that they held off a greathearted, day-long charge by Woods, the victor of 14 major championships, who posted no fewer than eight birdies across the par-70 course, including two in his last four holes, for his lowest score ever in a major?

Thomas Bjorn might have seen it coming. But in the past month he has seemed almost whole again, especially after a sixth-place finish at the British Open in which he briefly led.

A likely fight to the last day between the two and Dane Thorbjorn Olesen was joined by Spaniard Rafa Cabrera Bello, who shared 10th.

"So in eight holes, he had seven birdies", Furyk said.

Without hitting a fairway on the front nine, Woods cut the four-shot deficit to two.

Ten players were within four shots of the lead, no name bigger - no buzz bigger - than Woods.

That was as good as it got. After yanking his drive at 9 into the gallery on the right side, Woods faced an impossible angle to the green, with the pin tucked into the left corner. Woods had to get up and down from a bunker to save par.

Koepka started the day two ahead and led be three after birdieing the opening hole.

Woods and Koepka played nine holes of a practice round Wednesday, and the 14-time major champion knew what he was up against.

"It's tough to beat when the guy hits it 340 down the middle", Woods said. Koepka wasn't fazed, just like he wasn't fazed by the firm and windy conditions that annoyed so many in the field at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.

Koepka never imagined a year like this.
