Robert Quinn, a defensive end for the Dolphins, raised his fist.

The Philadelphia Eagles' Malcolm Jenkins and De'Vante Bausby showed resistance to the ban before their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers by raising fists during the anthem, while their teammate Chris Long placed his hand on Jenkins' shoulder, according to Philadelphia-based sports reporter Les Bowen.

Michael Bennett walked out of the tunnel during the playing of the anthem and headed to join his team.

The NFL's 32 team owners unanimously approved a new policy this offseason to require players to stand respectfully during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner", but the NFLPA appealed the rule.

Several NFL players took a knee, raised fists or did not take to the field while the National Anthem was played Thursday night before preseason games. The players included Jalen Ramsey, Telvin Smith, Leonard Fournette and T.J. Yeldon.

Thursday marked the first full slate of exhibition games.

The Dolphins players weren't the only ones to renew their protests as the preseason began Thursday night. It was not immediately clear how many saw signs of protest.

It sparked a national discussion about patriotism, and drew sharp vitriol from President Trump, who condemned those who kneeled as disrespectful to America.

Earlier this summer, the National Football League ordered players to stay in the locker room if they meant to kneel for the anthem. In July, the league and players association jointly announced that the new rule was "frozen" until further notice. "In order to allow this constructive dialogue to continue, we have come to a standstill agreement on the NFLPA's grievance and on the NFL's anthem policy".
