Amesbury poisoning: Police REVEAL source of deadly Novichok

Novichok ‘was inside bottle of perfume’

A small bottle discovered in the home of Novichok victim Charlie Rowley has been identified as the source of the nerve agent that killed his partner, London's Metropolitan Police said.

The Skripals survived and were released from the Salisbury hospital before Rowley and Sturgess were poisoned and taken there.

In a statement, Scotland Yard said: "On Wednesday 11 July, a small bottle was recovered during searches of Charlie Rowley's house in Amesbury".

Following those tests, scientists have now confirmed the substance in the bottle is Novichok.

Police and counter-terrorism investigators looking into the Amesbury incident say they haven't yet determined if there's a link to the Skripals' case. "However, we can not guarantee that there isn't any more of the substance left", police said.

Work involves taking swabs from surfaces and ensuring the process does not contaminate a wider area, police said.

Experts are trying to determine whether the Novichok that poisoned them was from the same batch used in the attempted murder of Sergei and Yulia Skripal.

Ms Sturgess, 44, and her partner, Charlie Rowley, 45, fell ill in Amesbury on June 30.

The force said, in total, search teams recovered over 400 "exhibits, samples and items" linked to the investigation into the poisoning of Sturgess and Rowley.

Authorities have yet to understand how the couple came across the contaminated bottle and how it ended up in their house.

Donald Trump should bring up the death of Dawn Sturgess when he meets Vladimir Putin, her grieving son has said.

The Foreign Office also on Friday said it had invited independent technical experts from the global chemical weapons watchdog to Britain early next week "to independently confirm the identity of the nerve agent".

The government has blamed Russian Federation for the poisonings, accusing Moscow of using Britain as a "dumping ground for poison".

About 100 counter-terror detectives are working on the investigation along with officers from Wiltshire Police.

Public Health England has reiterated its advice to members of the public and urged residents not to touch or pick up foreign objects.

An inquest into Sturgess' death is set to open and adjourn in Salisbury next Thursday.
