Judge: Experts can testify that Roundup linked to cancer

Writing that "a reasonable jury could conclude" that the herbicide in Monsanto's Roundup can cause a form of cancer, a federal judge says liability lawsuits against the company should proceed, siding with plaintiffs against an effort to quash the litigation.

The ruling Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria allows hundreds of lawsuits against Roundup's manufacturer, Monsanto, to move forward.

A federal judge in Sacramento in February blocked California from requiring that Roundup carry a label stating that it is known to cause cancer, saying the warning is misleading because nearly all regulators have concluded that there is no evidence glyphosate is carcinogenic.

The California state judge who handles the most Roundup cases posted to her docket that she was attending the hearings before Chhabria in March.

Lawsuits allege that Roundup maker Monsanto long knew about the cancer risk associated with the week killer but did not warn people.

The company is facing hundreds of lawsuits in state and federal courts that claim otherwise.

However, Monsanto said there's no evidence of a connection between their product and cancer.

Thomas nearly exclusively came off the bench, scoring 15.6 points per game in 17 games with the Lakers . Over his seven-year career, he is averaging 18.9 points and 5.1 assists.

Partridge added in his statement to NPR, "We have sympathy for anyone suffering from cancer, but the science clearly shows that glyphosate was not the cause".

Chhabria said the evidence, "viewed in its totality, seems too equivocal to support any firm conclusion that glyphosate causes" non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2014 at the age of 42.

Monsanto developed glyphosate in the 1970s, and the weed killer is now sold in more than 160 countries.

Claims against Monsanto received a boost in 2015, when the International Agency for Research on Cancer - part of the World Health Organization - announced that two pesticides, including glyphosate, are "probably carcinogenic to humans".

Roundup, made by United States giant Monsanto, is sprayed on gardens and parks and is used by farmers producing food crops.

A California man dying of cancer makes his case to a jury on Monday in a trial against agrochemical giant Monsanto that could have sweeping ramifications, news agency AFP reported.

U.S courts decided glyphosate does most likely not cause cancer in humans last September. The agency noted that scientific studies from other countries concluded the same.
