Chelsea winger Kenedy set to return on loan

Rafael Benitez manager of Newcastle United acknowledges the fans during the Barclays Premier League match between Newcastle United and Sunderland at St James Park

Newcastle United are pushing to complete the signing of Chelsea winger Kenedy today.

Kenedy was a prime candidate to be sold this summer to raise funds for first-team signings, but Chelsea have opted to loan him back to Newcastle after failing to find a club willing to meet their asking price, reportedly around £20 million.

If the move goes through, Kenedy will once again be looking to play on a regular basis under Benitez at Newcastle.

Kenedy, in his six months at Tyneside, made 13 Premier League appearances, scoring twice and providing two assists, thus impressing Magpies boss Rafa Benitez to pursue his trail for another deal.

Gab Marcotti discusses the latest developments in the Conte-Sarri saga and what's keeping the former Napoli manager from moving to Stamford Bridge. Kenedy will spend the 2018/19 campaign as a Newcastle player.

Kenedy joined Chelsea almost three years ago from Brazilian side Fluminense, but has played just 27 times for the club.

The defender enjoyed a fantastic season in the Premier League recently and it's believed that a host of top-flight clubs have expressed an interest in signing him from Newcastle.
