AT&T Gets Exclusive Deal to Sell Magic Leap's AR/VR Headset

The AT&T logo is seen on a monitor on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange

Today, AT&T announced an important move in terms of its own growth as well as Magic Leap's: It will be investing in the startup and will soon come the exclusive "wireless distributor" for Magic Leap products in the United States.

It's been a long time coming, with whispers of the headset being little more than vaporware along the way, but the naysayers could be about to be silenced - Magic Leap finally has a release window. Only demo spaces in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco will be showing off Magic Leap's magical (and still invisible) wares, with more markets eventually following. The company has been showing off its "Creator Edition" product, a set of goggles and a portable, wearable computer to power them. The product, Magic Leap One, is scheduled to ship later this year to designers and developers. The makers explained during yesterday's livestream (embedded below) that one of those ARM cores will be dedicated to game/app logic while the other will feed the GPU.

In addition, Magic Leap confirmed some details about its system, including that it uses an NVIDIA CPU/GPU module.

The well-funded start-up raised $461 million in its latest funding round in March, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's sovereign investment arm, taking the total funding to over $2.3 billion to date.
