Houston model bitten by shark while swimming in the Bahamas

That's what happened to Katarina Zarutskie, a 19-year-old model, while on vacation in the Exuma islands in the Bahamas with her boyfriend and his family.

An Instagram model has been bitten by a shark during an impromptu photo shoot.

Revealing all to Buzzfeed, she said: "Nurse sharks are calm creatures", adding that she had seen photos of people swimming next to them before.

Despite warnings from her boyfriend and his family, the nursing student and native of California had purposely gone into the water, which had nurse sharks - known to be harmless to humans - swimming nearby. She began floating in the water and everything seemed fine, but then one of the animals bit her and dragged her underwater.

Zarutskie had the injury cleaned and wrapped at the marina but travelled to Florida the following day for further treatment thanks to the risk of infection that comes with having a shark bite into your arm. "They were just screaming at me not to do it", she said. "I've seen countless photos of people with them on Instagram".

World's ugliest dog dies weeks after winning title
Zsa Zsa , the floppy-tongued bulldog from Minnesota who won the World's Ugliest Dog contest just last month, has reportedly died. Zsa Zsa was about nine years old when she passed away, which is about the life expectancy for the breed.

"I've been on so many different medications", she said. Luckily, she's okay...but the photo of her bite is quite brutal. Katarina posted them to social media, where she's been overwhelmed with comments asking for details.

"It was a very scary experience", she recalls.

Katarina also rejects accusations she ignored local advice or went into the water during feeding time. "I guess you know you have to take it with a grain of salt and it comes with the territory".

Zarutskie said she immediately headed for the stairs to get out of the water, holding her bloody arm above her head to keep it out of the water.

"He didn't mean it: he's a wild animal, and I think anyone that goes and swims with nurse sharks needs to realise it is an uncontrollable situation".
