Dozens killed in Turkey train derailment

A passenger with hundreds on board has come off the rails in northwest Turkey killing 10 people and injuring scores of others.

Television images showed carriages turned on their sides and medics at the site.

A Turkish train heading to Istanbul from Edirne derailed Sunday.

"The accident happened because of adverse weather conditions", Tekirdag governor Mehmet Ceylan told the NTV channel.

Transport Minister Ahmet Arslan was on his way to the scene, the ministry added.

The train came off the rails after heavy rain and a landslide on to the tracks, officials said.

Turkey's rail network has been hit by several fatal accidents in recent years.

The train was headed to Istanbul.
