"We expect the visit to open new avenues for the expansion of our partnership, particularly in the economic domain", Kumar had said. "Moon's visit to the Samsung factory could be a great help for Samsung that is struggling in India and China as chased after by Chinese rivals".

Looking back at how Samsung started operations in India, it was in 1997 that the company initiated churning out televisions which were followed by refrigerator production in 2003.

The South Korean tech giant makes 67 million smartphones in India and with the new plant, it is expected to manufacture almost 120 million.

The Korean chaebol said that the investment would position the Noida plant as a major production hub and create about 5,000 new jobs. India is a big opportunity across price segments, including 2G feature phones.
