Hamilton back on top in final practice

Hartley unharmed as massive shunt halts FP3 Image courtesy of Toro Rosso

Toro Rosso now faces a race against time to fix Hartley's auto in time for qualifying, with just a two-hour gap between the end of the final practice session and the start of Q1.

Considered to be one of the fastest tracks of Formula 1, Silverstone Circuit is hosting the British Grand Prix on Sunday and the qualifier for it shortly.

The front left wheel of his auto lifted and skewed vertically as the suspension collapsed and he was left without control of the machine as it spun backwards heavily into the barriers.

The reigning world champion initially split the two Ferraris in his Mercedes, before improving to a 1m27.442s best to lead Raikkonen by 0.165s.

Vettel completed only eight laps during the session and did not take part in the final minutes due to a "nuisance on his neck", as confirmed by Ferrari.

William and Kate had already used Louis as one of Prince George's middle names, but liked it so much they chose to use it again. Seventy-one years later, they are still married and known to us as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh .

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen was second fastest, 0.093 off the pace, with Hamilton's Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas third but 0.642 slower than the Briton.

Miraculously, the 28-year-old emerged from his destroyed auto, and walked away without significant injury. His teammate, Pierre Gasly, will start 14th.

Hartley's front-left suspension failed under braking at the end of Wellington Straight, putting him out of the session with less than 15 minutes on the clock.

While Hartley - merely a passenger as the vehicle crossed the gravel - was passed fit to continue, the damage to the auto made it doubtful that he would be able to take part in qualifying.

The Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Australia's Daniel Ricciardo were fifth and sixth but well off the pace.
