Polish Wikipedia blacks out in protest against European Union copyright rules

Labour MEP Theresa Griffin was among the group who took part in the action to support striking interpreters More

But the war is far from over.

"I ask for a proper balance to be reached in this regard".

Axel Voss, the German MEP who attempted to bring in the directive, said internet organisations had used false arguments against the copyright law.

Let us know what you think of this outcome in the comments.

Proponents of the reform, like Europe's Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers (SACEM) and former Beatles star Paul McCartney, believe the law would put more money in the hands of the creators. The two main amendments which drew criticism were Article 13 and Article 11.

"The broad scope of Article 13 could have covered any copyrightable material, including images, audio, video, compiled software, code and the written word", wrote James Temperton at Wired after the measure was voted down.

"There is no "censorship machine", "upload filter", or "robocopyright".

Both Wikipedia Italia and IT experts have argued that the law not only poses a threat to creative freedom, but that it also has not been debated long enough for the less tech-savvy parliamentarians to understand what they're voting on.

WND reported in advance of the vote that the EU's committee on legal affairs supported the plan.

He is a strong, committed defender who can play on the left or right, and so his versatility gives us good options at the back. He becomes Watford's second signing of the day after winger Ken Sema joined from Ostersund.

"What is it that we are talking about?"

Axel Voss, who headed the parliamentary committee, criticized internet groups for using false arguments.

"We are talking about the major United States platforms like Google and Facebook that have been making huge profits at the cost of European creatives".

The passing of GDPR, which was a much tamer regulation in comparison and was highly supported by internet users but not so much by advertising companies, has shown that foreign companies are already on the edge about continuing to support European Union citizens on their sites.

Before the vote, Voss addressed MEPs and urged them to vote in favour of proceeding with negotiations.

Monique Goyens, director general of the European Consumer Organisation, said in a statement on Thursday that "MEPs have a chance to correct a heavily unbalanced report and make copyright work for both consumer and creators".

The issue will return on the plenary agenda in September.

The negotiators will have to find a compromise between the commission's original text, the to-be-determined parliament text, and the council's text, which was agreed last May.
