Coffee drinking connected to lower risk of death, study finds

Generally speaking, people who drank two to three cups of coffee every day had a lower risk of death than those who didn't. It includes about half a million Brits who contributed their data and DNA to the United Kingdom biobank, and it finds an inverse relationship between people drinking up to eight or more cups per day and all-cause mortality.

Researchers say that those who drink six or seven cups of coffee per day are 16 percent less likely to die from any disease over a 10-year period than those who never have a cup of Joe.

But something people may not realize that is also beneficial when it comes to coffee, especially during these sweltering summer months, is that coffee does not dehydrate you.

But not only was this a very large study that demonstrated significant findings, it's one of many studies that indicate coffee may be beneficial for health.

So the study seems to suggest you can get much the same health benefits from cheap supermarket coffee as from a fancy cup of artisanal terroir coffee. Context like the general recommendation from experts to stick to 400 mg of caffeine per day (about four cups of coffee) - too much of the stuff tends to lead to problems like insomnia or heartburn.

"These findings suggest the importance of non caffeine constituents in the coffee-mortality association and provide further reassurance that coffee drinking can be a part of a healthy diet".

They found non-coffee drinkers were more likely to have died than those that drunk coffee.

Craving another cup of coffee? If there were a big study on fruits and vegetables lowering the risk of dying, we'd all just shrug, she said.

Facebook shuts down Hello, Moves and tbh apps
It was bought by the tech giant eight months ago after attracting millions of downloads at launch. It enables people to combine information from Facebook with contact information on their phone.

"Early on, there were some reports of potential adverse effects as far as coffee and health outcomes", said Alice Lichtenstein, the Gershoff Professor of nutrition science and policy at Tufts University.

"It's hard to believe that something we enjoy so much could be good for us". Firstly, the study involved a half a million people from the UK Biobank, a 10-year population-based study that ran from 2006 to 2016.

The strongest associations were observed for ground coffee compared to instant and decaf, the authors wrote, summarizing that brewed coffee offers higher concentrations of health-protective compounds and nutrients, which promote "reduced inflammation, improved insulin sensitivity", increase blood flow and proper liver functioning. But evidence also suggests caffeine could cause high blood pressure or heart attacks in those who find it tough to metabolize.

"During the next decade, 14,225 participants died, mostly of cancer or heart disease", the AP reported.

The research didn't include whether participants drank coffee black or with cream and sugar.

When all causes of death were combined, even slow caffeine metabolisers had a longevity boost.

[In 2014], a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies looking at long-term consumption of coffee and the risk of cardiovascular disease was published.
