Didi To Start Operating In Australia This Month

Didi Chuxing in Australia

"Australia has diversified mobility needs, a business-friendly environment and an inclusive culture", Didi, backed by blue-chip investors, including SoftBank Group and Apple, said in a statement.

Chinese mobile transport success story Didi Chuxing is launching its DiDi Express ride-sharing services in Melbourne, making Australia the platform's first English-speaking market. The company isn't widely known outside of China, but it has been aggressively pushing into worldwide markets this year.

To entice users and drivers to its platform, Didi Chuxing said it plans to offer "a series of welcome packages to both drivers and riders", which will likely to be fee waivers and coupons. "See DiDi app for full terms and conditions".

Both of these firms have received investments directly from Didi. Drivers who register from 25 June onwards (post-launch) will receive a $100 bonus after completing 20 trips within 7 days.

So, what about the all-important app?

Australian firm GoCatch is also a player in the market. "As DiDi grows in Australia it will introduce additional product features that will further improve its efficiency, safety and reliability".

The scheduled June 25 launch in Australia's second biggest city Melbourne sets Didi up for a showdown with the US rival it bought out in China in exchange for a stake.

Ltd. said it will begin offering its services in Australia this month.

It cemented its spot as China's biggest ride-hailing firm when it bought Uber's operations in the country in 2016.

In each market, DiDi says it will "apply its global technology and R&D capabilities locally to develop and adapt advanced technologies and algorithm models".

This, it said will be done by offering "affordable, reliable and convenient mobility options" and opportunities to generate income.

The company says it is "committed to collaborating with cities, the taxi industry and communities to solve the world's transportation, environmental, and employment challenges with smart transportation innovations".

Uber is still the predominate ridesharing company in Australia, though it's faced recent competition from Taxify, Ola and GoCatch.
