Whoops! Target issues apology for 'Baby Daddy' card

The anger prompted a response from Target on Monday

We sincerely apologize to anyone this particular card has offended.

A shopper named Takeisha Saunders first posted an image of the card on May 31 and claimed it was the only card depicting a black couple.

Photos of cards with the words "Baby Daddy" printed across a black couple kissing has been circulating since late May, and now Target has chose to act, reports Fox 5 DC.

Customer ire has pushed Target to remove its ' Baby Daddy' greeting cards from stores ahead of Father's Day.

The inside of the card, as noted by a user on Saunders" post, does include the message: "You're a wonderful husband and father - and I'm so grateful to have you as my partner, my friend, and my baby daddy'. "It's never our intent to offend any of our guests with the products we sell".

Peter Navarro's apology to Justin Trudeau for 'hell' remark
The problem was that in conveying that message I used language that was inappropriate. President Trump withdrew from the communique in a fit of rage on Saturday.

"Yeah it's sweet on the inside but whomever created this card doesn't know what it means", she added of the card, which she said was produced by the American Greetings Corporation, and therefore not an exclusive item to Target.

Customers have taken to social media to ask - why not just keep "father" on the card, as he's still the parent of the child?

The cards sparked a lively debate on what the term "baby daddy" means to the black community.

Saunders thanked the store via Twitter but says many people were angry she was upset about the card at all. It's not sweet or nice, ' she stated.

Responding to the complaints, Target is pulling the card from about 900 stores, spokesman Joshua Thomas said in a statement given to The Kansas City Star on Wednesday. "By posting my comment, I hoped to shed some light on why I was upset about it".
