Watch the horrifying first trailer of 'Conjuring' spinoff 'the Nun'

The Nun

While the payoff for that was ultimately a letdown (it was just a typical jump scare you'd get in any horror film), it certainly made me want to watch until the end, and I'm sure it'll entice many viewers who would normally have clicked away (assuming most viewers of these will be through YouTube pre-roll ads).

What did you think of this teaser trailer for The Conjuring?

A prequel to the other four movies in the franchise, The Nun takes place in 1952 after a Catholic priest and his team is sent by the Vatican to investigate the mysterious death of a nun in Romania.

Directed by Corin Hardy and produced by James Wan (director of The Conjuring films) and Peter Safran, the fright-fest will star Oscar-nominated Demian Bichir as Father Burke, American Horror Story's Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene and Jonas Bloquet as local villager Frenchie.

Together the duo uncover the order's unholy secret, which results in them risking not only their lives, their faith, and their very souls.

Don’t Be Afraid to Talk With Someone
Among people age 10 to 34, suicide was the No. 2 cause of death in 2016, coming just after deaths from unintentional injuries. What's more, people with depression are at higher risk for a range of other health issues.

Universal Pictures and franchise creator James Wan are also reportedly looking to create a spinoff film based on the Crooked Man, who appeared in the last movie. Richard Brener, Walter Hamada, Dave Neustadter, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Todd Williams are the executive producers.

The trailer concludes with the young nun walking through the dark - not aware that she's being followed by the evil nun, who then leaps out.

You can learn the backstory for yourself when The Nun hits theaters on September 7.
