Federal Bureau of Investigation agent who dropped gun while dancing charged

Chase Bishop

The Denver Police Department responded to Mile High Spirits Distillery at 2201 Lawrence St. on the morning of June 2.

In the video described by the Denver Post, Bishop did a backflip in the center of a circle of people, and his gun fell from its holster.

An attorney for the wounded man told CNN affiliate KMGH that the bullet hit a main artery and that his client could have bled to death if someone had not applied a tourniquet to his leg. In the now viral video, Bishop can be seen dancing and then doing a backflip.

Denver District Attorney Beth McCann said: "We are filing (the assault) charge now rather than waiting until the (blood alcohol content) report is received, which we understand could take another week, because sufficient evidence has been presented to file it". Police had initially released Bishop to an Federal Bureau of Investigation supervisor while awaiting toxicology results before deciding whether to charge him.

KUSA reported that the man, 29-year-old Chase Bishop, was arrested and booked in a Denver jail and that he has been charged with second-degree assault. According to Denver PD, as he went to pick it up, Bishop's gun fired.

Bishop did not speak in court Wednesday but nodded his head with his hands crossed in front of him. "Then it clicked that I've been shot".
