Don’t Be Afraid to Talk With Someone

A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Oklahoma's suicide rate has increased by 30 percent since 1999.

Yes, mental illness does have something to do with some suicides, but the CDC reported that in the 27 states that use the National Violent Death Reporting System, 54 percent of suicides were among people with no known mental health condition.

Recently, the Centers for Disease Control released its latest suicide data, revealing that almost 45,000 people committed suicide in 2016.

Standard anti-depression can take several weeks to work, and they aren't much useful as well, stated by the leading effort testing the drug of J&J's; Carla Canuso, in people deemed at the pipeline risk for suicide that's nearly closely associated with depression. In 2016, the number of suicides increased in young people (ages 10-18) in Tennessee, with one person in this age group lost to suicide every week.

Both Spade and Bourdain were part of a demographic in which suicide rates have been substantially increasing, according to an abstract released in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention aims to improve awareness by hosting conferences and community walks for survivors and their families. Among people age 10 to 34, suicide was the No. 2 cause of death in 2016, coming just after deaths from unintentional injuries.

N.H. seeks solutions for rising suicide rate.

"Twenty years ago, we wouldn't have even heard about any of these deaths until the 6 o'clock news", she says. "A traumatic event is a strong data point, any significant life event that the person is presenting saying they are baffled and are running out of solutions to their problems".

"You can be the difference in getting them the help they need", the organization says. Mental health or substance use problems are nearly always present.

What's more, people with depression are at higher risk for a range of other health issues. Further triggering, she says, is the constant barrage of instant reporting on a suicide. And above all, don't be afraid to ask if they've thought about suicide.

Only a medical professional can diagnose someone as suicidal, but asking the question "are you thinking about killing yourself?" and providing a safe space for someone to talk about their feelings without judgment or shame can be extremely helpful.

"If I find out that somebody in the person's life has committed suicide, that is a strong data point".

Public affairs manager Toni Giugliano said: "There should be a concerted effort to support family members in the aftermath of a suicide, as well as first responders, who are often close relatives or friends of the deceased".
