Aston Martin's local division has confirmed the Rapide AMR will be available in Australia, priced from $459,950 plus ORCs.
Previewed in a concept a year ago, the production version is described by Andy Palmer as taking the model "to new and exciting extremes".
The £194,950 Rapide AMR - costing £45,450 more than the standard Rapide S - closely echoes the concept shown at the Geneva motor show in 2017, with a front grille reminiscent of the track-only Vantage AMR Pro and circular daytime running lights similar to recent Zagato models.
It will go into production in a limited run of 210 cars.
Visually, the auto looks largely identical to the concept from Geneva, with a detailed front grille and circular daytime running lights that are Zagato-inspired.
Aston Martin has tuned the car's dynamics to reduce lift while retaining a neutral balance and the extra aerodynamic bodywork such as the splitter, sills, rear diffuser and boot lid lip spoiler are all carbon fibre. The new bonnet, complete with ventilation inserts, is also made from the lightweight material.
Aston Martin Rapide AMR revealed with 603 PS V12
The legendary V12 now puts out 449kW and 630NM of torque, while a new quad exhaust ensures a raucous sound befitting of the AMR badge. The result is a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 4,4 seconds, which represents an improvement of half a second over the Rapide S.
To handle the boost in power, Aston fits three-mode adaptive dampers and lowers the ride height by 0.4 inches (10 millimeters).
Meanwhile, carbon ceramic brakes provide better stopping power with 400 mm discs at the front (six-piston calipers) and 360 mm units at the rear (four-piston calipers). To further aid brake cooling, the Rapide AMR uses a version of the Vanquish S's cooling system with modified brake ducts and dust shields. Much of this development work has been completed at the newly opened AMR Performance Centre at the Nürburgring.
Customers can choose from three different design schemes - Standard, Silhouette and Signature. Standard offers buyers the choice between four colours - Mariana Blue, Scintilla Silver, Lightning Silver and Onyx Black - with Lime accents, while Silhouette retains the same colour choice but swaps the Lime highlights for a full-length contrast stripe in either China Grey or Clubsport White. Sterling Green is exclusive to the Signature model and gets Lime accents. Q by Aston Martin, the automaker's bespoke team, is on hand to make any more custom changes.
Inside the vehicle, the chosen exterior scheme is reflected on the inside with either AMR Lime or Galena Silver wearing and stitching. Each auto gets AMR logos stitched into the seats and a limited-edition AMR plaque on the carbon sills.
The Aston Martin Rapide AMR will be available worldwide (except Russian Federation and China) from the final quarter of 2018, with prices starting at £194 950 (R3.48 million) ex factory in the United Kingdom; expect to pay about R6 million landed in South Africa.
