Ivanka Trump Mocked By Asians Everywhere For Tweeting 'Chinese Proverb'

Ivanka Trump did not accompany her father to Singapore for his summit with Kim Jong Un, but in an apparent show of support, tweeted what she described as a Chinese proverb: "Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt those doing it".

Ms Trump, whose daughter is learning Mandarin, attributed the quote to "Chinese Proverb" along with her post on Twitter, published hours before her father came together with Mr Kim to seek an end to a tense decades-old nuclear stand-off. By 1962, it had been put behind the words "Confucius say" by another periodical.

Social media users offered similar quotes by Chinese President Xi Jinping - known for trumpeting the value of "practical work" over "empty talk" - while also suggesting fake sayings by famous Chinese author Lu Xun.

The first daughter and senior presidential adviser sent off what seemed to be a note of encouragement as her dad sat down in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

"Things move along so rapidly nowadays that people saying: 'It can't be done, ' are always being interrupted by somebody doing it", according to an article in the mag, the New York Times reported.

Website Quote Investigator, which suggested it originated at the turn of the 20th century in the United States, pointed out variations of the quote coming from different sources, such as Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw, American writer Elbert Hubbard, humor magazine "Puck", and Saxby's Magazine, among others. "Please help!", read a post by news channel Sina, which is Weibo's parent company, as per news agency AFP.

"Our editor really can't think of exactly which proverb this is".

Some internet users mocked Ivanka for her tweet.

She hired a Chinese-speaking nanny to tutor her daughter.

'She saw it in a fortune cookie at Panda Express, ' one user wrote.

Bill Kristol, editor of U.S. political magazine The Weekly Standard, tweeted that the phrase "seems in fact to be American from the turn of the 20th century". "But why are Trump WH aides giving our proverbs to China, increasing our proverb deficit?"

She also wrongly attributed a quote to Albert Einstein in July past year, writing: "If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts".
