Avengers: Infinity War passes $2 billion at box office

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Becomes Fourth Pic To Cross $2 Billion Global Mark

Wong can probably afford that metaphysical ham and rye now: Avengers: Infinity War has officially crossed $2 billion at the global box office, becoming only the fourth film in history to do so.

Avenger's Infinity War had the best global opening weekend ever and hit $1 billion at the box office faster than any other film.

It's a bit interesting that this list of $2 billion movies now strictly belongs to either Disney films or films directed by James Cameron. Only three other movies have amassed such an impressive box office run, Avatar with $2.79 billion, Titanic with $2.19 billion, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $2.07 billion.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the third Avengers film, and the 19th film in the MCU, eked passed the $2 billion mark on Monday. Its $257.7 million domestic opening weekend set a new record. Its domestic and worldwide debuts over the April 27 weekend combined for a record-shattering global opening of $640.5 million even without China.

Additionally, Infinity War is already the fifth-highest grossing film in domestic box office record, now sitting at $655.1 million, inevitably set to overtake Black Panther ($699.4M) and Titanic ($659.3M), and likely set to finish just behind The Force Awakens ($936.6M) and Avatar ($760.5M). In China, the film's $369.7 million gross to date ranks third all-time.

Can "Infinity War" reach the rest of the pack?

Disney looks to repeat, or even possibly exceed, the success of "Infinity War" a little less than a year from now when its sequel "Avengers 4" opens on May 3, 2019. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment - the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
