Ben Stokes out of Scotland ODI and start of Australia series

Chris Woakes ruled out of one-day clash with Scotland by thigh injury

Woakes is now a doubt to face Australia this summer.

England all-rounder Ben Stokes had been ruled out the one-day global (ODI) against Scotland next weekend and the "first part" of the five-match series against Australia with a torn hamstring, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Sunday.

After the Australia series, England then host India in a T20, ODI and Test series, something Stokes will be desperate to be involved in. "He is replaced in the squad by Surrey's Tom Curran", England said on its verified Twitter account. However, the team has been dealt with a massive blow as Chris Woakes, their premier all-rounder has been ruled out of the Scotland ODI owing to a tightness in his right quad.

Tom Curran last played for England in the series victory over New Zealand in March

Tom Curran, whose brother Sam made his Test debut at Headingley, was already part of the squad for the Australia series.

There were also concerns over the fitness of captain Morgan after he suffered a finger injury while playing for Middlesex, forcing him to miss the charity game between a Rest of the World XI and the West Indies at Lord's last week. Thereafter, they will play a five-match ODI series versus Australia and a solitary T20, which commences on June 13 in London.
