Celebrity Chef Anthony Bourdain Dead at 61

He was found unresponsive in his room by his close friend and fellow celebrity chef Eric Ripert.

Bourdain, 61, was in France working on an upcoming episode of his CNN food and travel show, Parts Unknown, which he had hosted since 2013.

The network paid tribute to Bourdain, saying: "His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly hard time", the statement read further. Bourdain, whose CNN television show "Parts Unknown" recently featured Newfoundland and Labrador, apparently took his own life.

Bourdain established himself as a premiere author and award-winning television personality, giving insights into the culinary world.

Starting his career in various NY restaurants including the Supper Club and One Fifth Avenue, in 1998 Bourdain became executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles.

Bourdain was married to Nancy Putkoski for 20 years, until 2005. He married Ottavia Busia in 2007, and the couple had a child together. Almost 45,000 people committed suicide in 2016, making it one of three leading causes of death in the country, along with Alzheimer's disease and drug overdoses.

The Italian actress and filmmaker's relationship with Bourdain gained prominence after he publicly supported her when she accused Harvey Weinstein of rape.

Bourdain's death came days after fashion designer Kate Spade hanged herself in an apparent suicide Tuesday at her Manhattan apartment. An online chat also is available.
