Insane footage of asteroid hitting farm

The asteroid made impact into the earth's atmosphere at about 12:44 p.m. on June 2, at a speed of 38,000 miles per hour over South Africa.

The administrator of the Center for Near-Earth Object Studies, Paul Chodas at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of NASA said that this is only the 2 time that the location of entry of the asteroid was estimated with enough time beforehand.

When 2018 LA reached Earth, it was traveling very fast at around 10 miles per second (38,000MPH) and disintegrated in the atmosphere on impact.

2018 LA was first spotted on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 3:43 UTC (11:43 p.m. EDT, June 1), by astronomers working with the Catalina Sky Survey.

Witnesses reported a fireball streaking across the sky above Botswana on Saturday night. In one video, from a farm between Ottosdal and Hartebeesfontein in northwest South Africa, the asteroid appears as a brilliant streak that flares up into a spectacular fireball on the horizon.

At the time of its discovery, 2018 LA was nearly as close to Earth as the orbit of the moon, "although that was not initially known", stated NASA officials.

Reasons Why Season 3 Will Arrive on Netflix in 2019
That's more than double the numbers for The Crown , which had nearly 3 million viewers watch in its first three days. Netflix has renewed the hit drama for a 13-episode third season, slated to premiere next year, TVLine has learned.

Scientists were able to observe 2018 LA a few hours prior to impact using the ATLAS asteroid survey, an asteroid impact early warning system developed by the University of Hawaii and funded by NASA. "It is also only the second time that the high probability of an impact was predicted well ahead of the event itself". According to NASA, an automated alert was sent to the Planetary Defense Coordination Office in Washington, however it was quickly determined that the asteroid was harmless.

"It shows our impact prediction models are adequate to respond to much larger and more threatening objects".

The Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter contains hundreds of thousands of asteroids more than half a mile in size or more, with millions of smaller objects tumbling in space.

A large Asteroid went undetected in 2013 until the cosmic body collided in the atmosphere. The first was 2008 TC3, which was detected 15 hours before it broke up over northern Sudan on October 7, 2008.

NASA officials said the scramble among scientists and asteroid observers was a good training exercise. All of the 3 asteroids were discovered by Richard Kowalski using the same asteroid detector.

In 2008, an asteroid measuring 4 metres was spotted 19 hours in advance. The next has been 2014 AA, found only a couple of hours before it changed within the Atlantic Ocean on January 1, 2014.
