California Starbucks Employee Writes Racial Slur on Latino Customer's Cup

Starbucks Apologizes for Slur on Customer's Order

There's more trouble brewing for Starbucks after a Latino man in La Canada, Calif., claims he discovered a racial slur written on his cup. The alleged incident occurred at the La Cañada, Flintridge, located northeast of Burbank, California.

The barista printed "Beaner" on the cup instead of the man's name.

"That's clearly really racist".

In a statement sent to the broadcaster, Starbucks said the incident was "not indicative of the type of experience we want our customers to have when they walk into our stores". What can I tell you?

Meanwhile, a statement from the corporate office said that the company took the matter seriously and looked to make it right.

The barista believed to be responsible for writing the slur at the La Cañada Flintridge location is said to be in her 20s.

Starbucks' latest public relations foul-up comes just one month after management at a branch in Philadelphia denied use of the store bathroom and then called the police on two black men who were waiting in the cafe for an acquaintance.

With less than two weeks to go before the coffee chain closes stores nationwide to educate its almost 175,000 workers on how not to discriminate against others, Starbucks (SBUX) this week found itself apologizing for doing just that. "We apologize and are working to correct this, and we are investigating the incident to ensure that this does not happen again". Brandon Ward, 26, alleged that a worker at the location in the Los Angles suburb of Torrance on January 23 prevented him from using the store's restroom because of his ethnicity.

Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) is in hot waters after the company labeled a man's beverage with a racial slur in a West Coast location. The brand's cup is pictured in a shop on October 5, 2004 in New York City.
