Dugal who is now in Cannes for the screening of Manto, which was in the Un Certain Regard category, joined the protest and cheered as Cate Blanchett gave many statistics on the gender disparities of the festival.

For the world premiere of their movie, Manto, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Rasika Dugal were at the 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival. With his body language, attitude and the tone of his voice, Nawazuddin is a rebel writer who never shies away from speaking the truth be it to his family or the larger society.

As per the description by the makers, Manto is the tale of two emerging nations, two faltering cities, and one man who tries to make sense of it all.

Speaking about the film, Priyanka Chopra said, "At Purple Pebble Pictures, we want to tell good stories, give new talent a chance and provide the audience with an entertaining experience". We are not putting "Manto" on a pedestal.

Earlier in an interview to PTI, Nawazuddin Siddique had said, "I think only that person can do "Manto" (film), who has the courage to speak the truth". For youth, it is extremely inspirational to see someone like him. I don't think audience from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will not be able to relate with it, it's very relatable story.
