State may gamble on sports betting

NCAA officials stated Thursday they won't stand in the way of states with legalized sports gambling such as Nevada from hosting championship events

"It's going to take some time before that analysis is done, and I doubt seriously the regulators are going to be taking in sports betting as a potential functionality of that review, but that potentially could something" for virtual currency companies, payments companies and clearing houses to review, he said.

The Supreme Court's (SCOTUS) ruling this week that paves the way for states other than Nevada to legalize sports betting is a victory for states' rights and should put another nail in the coffin for those attempting to ban all forms of online gaming.

For now, New Jersey, and possibly DE, will likely be the only options for new sports betting operations in the coming weeks.

McLaughlin spent this week in Naples, Florida, this week for the Atlantic 10's annual spring meetings. It presents states with the flawless opportunity to establish sensible policies not only to regulate sports wagering, but also other forms of gaming, including internet poker. That led to a new topic of conversation among conference coaches and administrators this week. Sports data companies are likely going to be in high demand since gamblers will be looking for any information the can get to give them an edge.

Or will the rules remain as rigid as ever despite the move toward legalization?

"It's a little premature to say what this will mean for all of us", IL athletic director Josh Whitman said Tuesday.

"I think it's good for horse racing", said Mike Cameron, a co-host of a sports radio call-in show who also happens to be a horse trainer. "The concerns that typically come along with gambling - we know what those are".

Undeterred, New Jersey passed a new law, this time not authorizing gambling but just repealing the state law provisions that would have prohibited it. This large figure (almost five times the combined revenues of Major League Baseball, the NFL, NBA and NHL; 14 times the movie industry's domestic ticket sales) is a guess and might be much less than the actual sum that Americans wager on sports. The survey found that 62 percent of respondents preferred state control.

Cisco Systems (CSCO) Expected to Post Quarterly Sales of $12.42 Billion
The Street was, on average, projecting revenue of $12.43 billion, and earnings per share of 65 cents, excluding some costs. The fund owned 18,005 shares of the network equipment provider's stock after selling 29,332 shares during the quarter.

Through a spokesman, Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock declined an interview request, deferring comment to ACC Commissioner John Swofford.

- The U.S. Supreme Court has cleared the way for states to legalize sports betting, but don't expect any quick changes to the status quo in the Tar Heel State. Even after paying down all the billions we owe and bankrolling public employee pensions, the state should be spewing black ink instead of now swimming in the red stuff. "We will discuss with our membership and determine how we proceed".

It's amusing how this case, which was filed by former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, ended with some wise words from the one of the most ardent opponents of marijuana legalization in the country. Christie posted to Twitter on Monday: This is "a great day for the rights of states and their people to make their own decisions".

One of the big questions if Colorado were to legalize sports gambling is how it would be handled on mobile devices. "And each state will have to make that decision for themselves".

Virginia law now considers gambling illegal, part of a code section titled "Crimes Involving Morals and Decency". Nevada has always been the only state to allow single-game wagering on professional and amateur sports and the Supreme Court ruling doesn't change that.

"Sure, I think that's possible", Whitman said. "That's why Breeders' Cup, Derby, anybody that wins a race even on the undercard, it means a lot because there's 100,000 people here watching you win a race", he said. "New Jersey citizens wanted sports gambling and the federal Gov't had no right to tell them no". "We look at this as an amenity that we can offer our customers". "Your personal view may differ from what the climate's doing". The NBA wants its cut of betting action and analysts over there talk about how there are so many American leagues in different sports on which people could bet.

"I spoke to Senator Sweeney, and he asked me to wait", Drazin said. "Of course. But if you're asking me had I rather be bitten by a Black Widow or a Brown Recluse, my answer is neither", he said, according to Kentucky Today. "I personally would not support it".
