On May 5, African-American real estate investor Michael Hayes was inspecting a house he's interested in buying in a Memphis neighborhood.
Hayes recently shared a video that captures his entire experience with the racist neighbor when he went to inspect the house he had recently invested in.
She also says the vacant house is a hot bed for crime, so she was anxious when she woke up to the sound of the boards being pulled off.
Still not satisfied, the woman told Hayes to "hurry up" and do what he had to do and then "get out" of the neighborhood.
'I very calmly explained to her that I have a contract on the house and was there to do my inspection.
He also showed her his business sign that he places in the yards of vacant properties, so people will know why he's there.
And she says she's not racist - she's Spanish and her boyfriend is black.
That's when she yelled at him that he couldn't do that and threatened to call police, he said.
However, this didn't seem to satisfy the woman's suspicions about him, and she ended up calling the police. Hayes also showed him the paperwork giving him permission to be in the house and gave him his business card.
But the neighbor Hayes is seen arguing with in the video told a different story when reached Wednesday.
One of the officers called the homeowner of the vacant house, who assured them that Hayes was supposed to be there. Five days prior to the incident, a group of black filmmakers in California said they were stopped by cops while checking out an Airbnb unit after a white neighbor assumed they "were stealing from the house", one of the women in the group posted on Facebook.
"We are thankful to Mr. Hayes for recording a positive interaction with MPD officers and for sharing the true image of what our officers represent", the department said.
Then she called the police, Hayes said.
"You know why the lady called the police on me", he said in the video.
At this point Hayes told the inquisitive and rather rude woman about his profession. Then she called the police.
"I don't care if you're friends with the president", the officer responded. You're going to let him do what he's gotta do. "Listen to me - if you try to do anything to stop him, I'm going to take you to jail".
Officers took her to task when she said she had friends in the sheriff's department.
