Bing Bans Cryptocurrency Ads

Cryptocurrency ads banned on Bing

Bing Ads, Microsoft's advertising service, has chose to disallow cryptocurrency advertising.

Bing Ads is a Microsoft service that provides paid advertising on the Microsoft and Yahoo! internet search engines. "We are always evaluating our policies to ensure a safe and engaging experience for our Bing users and the digital advertising ecosystem".

The changes will officially be implemented in June of 2018 and "enforcement" of this ban will begin sometime during in late June or early July of 2018.

"To help protect our users from this risk, we have made the decision to disallow advertising for cryptocurrency, cryptocurrency related products, and un-regulated binary options", wrote Melissa Alsoszatai-Petheo, advertising policy manager at Microsoft, in a blog post.

On its website, Bing said the decision has been made to protect its users from the risks that come with cryptocurrency and unregulated products.

JC Penney Company, Inc. (NYSE:JCP) 1Q18 Earnings Miss Street View
Penney Company Inc (NYSE: JCP)'s shares owned by insiders are 1.6%, whereas shares owned by institutional owners are 78%. Asian stocks were mixed on Thursday after strong factory data from the USA assisted spur gains overnight on Wall Street.

The change will be effective in late June/early July.

Whilst some have found (temporary) ways around the ad bans on other platforms, it does add to the growing feeling that some kind of cryptocurrency regulation is needed.

Microsoft search engine Bing is banning cryptocurrency ads. Facebook became the first social media platform to ban ads for cryptocurrencies in January of this year. Though the companies have banned ads, CEO of both Facebook and Twitter embrace Crypto. Company product management director Rob Leathern later commented, "We want people to continue to discover and learn about new products and services through Facebook ads without fear of scams or deception".

Now, looking at Microsoft's ban list, cryptocurrency falls in line with other endeavors which present "legally questionable business opportunities". The ban will also be applicable to binary options related advertisements.
