Saudis suspend World Cup referee over bribery

The committee banned him for life and recommended that the 32-year-old referee be suspended from participating in June and July's World Cup in Russian Federation and other global events.

Federation Internationale de Football Association released a statement requesting for more information after Saudi Arabia banned one of their own referees for life over a match-fixing attempt weeks before he was due to fly to Russia for the World Cup.

He was replaced overseeing the King's Cup final by Mark Clattenburg, who was set to be selected for the World Cup before leaving England a year ago to take a job heading refereeing in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Mirdasi was replaced at the last minute for the match between Al-Ittihad and Al-Faisaly by former Federation Internationale de Football Association and English Premier League referee Mark Clattenberg who is now employed by the Saudis as their head of refereeing.

In a statement, Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) said the official had attempted to fix a match and, therefore, he has been banned from football for life.

Sergie Magnitsky was a Browder accountant who died in a Russian prison under questionable circumstances. The committee did release one page of notes that Manafort took during the meeting.

SAFF has already banned Al Mirdasi for life after he asked for bribe to influence the outcome of a match. "He asked for an illegal sum of money in exchange for helping his team win the game", it said.

"After the president of Ittihad club presented what was in his possession to the Federation of Football, the Saudi Federation sent this conversation to the Chairman of the General Directorate of Sport, who in turn informed the competent authorities in all details".

World Cup-bound official Al Mirdasi, 32, was hit with a life-long suspension by the SAFF having confessed to offering to fix Saturday's King's Cup final between Al-Ittihad and Al-Faisaly in Saudi Arabia.

However, world soccer's governing body has requested more information before taking actions against Al Mirdasi, who officiated last year's third spot playoffs between Portugal and Mexico at the Confederations Cup and was one of five Arab referees designated for this year's World Cup.
