PM Abbasi accepts Turkish PM's invitation to participate in OIC Summit

Erdogan urges for 'common stance' for Palestine

Turkey has announced today the call of an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) after the opening of the United States embassy in Jerusalem and the bloody repression of Israel against Palestinian protests.

The US administration "unlawfully" opened its embassy in Jerusalem, said the OIC on Monday terming it a "clear violation" of global law and legitimacy and in clear contempt of worldwide community's position regarding Jerusalem.

Separately, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed on Tuesday that a planned summit this week of the world's main pan-Islamic body would send a "strong message" after Israeli forces killed dozens of Palestinians along the Gaza border.

He added that all members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) were invited.

Bangladesh also expressed its dismay as the United States' shifted its Embassy to Jerusalem.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildrim telephoned Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and extended invitation for participation in the Extraordinary Session of the OIC on May 18.

Erdogan's call came against a backdrop of increasing instability on the Israel-Gaza border, as a result of raw violence from the Israeli side against Palestinian protesters; victims of Israeli gunfire are over 60 in the past 2 days.

The summit declared East Jerusalem - which the global community regards as annexed by Israel - "as the capital of the State of Palestine" and urged the world to follow suit.

The leaders also discussed the agenda for the upcoming extraordinary OIC meeting on Friday in Istanbul on the climbing tension in Palestine and Washington's relocation of its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
