Apple hit with class-action lawsuit over 'defective' MacBook Pro keyboard

MacBook Pro

As a result of the defect, consumers who purchased a MacBook face a constant threat of non-responsive keys and accompanying keyboard failure.

Apple's butterfly keyboard has long-been controversial, but things were escalated over the weekend when a class action lawsuit was filed against the company over the keyboard. The lawsuit also takes issue with Apple's repair process for faulty keyboards, saying it doesn't permanently fix problems during the repair process.

"Owners of these laptops have reported a potential defect, which causes keys on the keyboard to become unresponsive, necessitating complete replacement of the keyboard", the firm writes on its website.

Because typing is the primary objective of laptops, over time, consumers have become more and more frustrated with the keyboard defect. The suit alleges that the keyboards are defective and that "thousands" of consumers have been impacted by the problem. The petition has almost 24,000 online signatures, and its goal is 25,000.
