Legendary NBA Player Hal Greer Has Passed Away
Greer's legacy includes being a Mid-American Conference MVP in 1958 and a two-time All-MAC selection, but his biggest and most significant accomplishment was becoming the first black athlete to play for Marshall and made 71 appearances in a Herd jersey.
Nicknamed "the Bulldog" by teammates for his game-face scowl, Mr. Greer played in 1,122 games before retiring in 1973, setting an National Basketball Association record for longevity that has since been surpassed by Robert Parish and 57 others.
According to Marshall University, Greer scored 1,377 points and hauled in 765 rebounds.
Greer served the 76ers win an National Basketball Association championship in 1967 - rsquo & that the franchise;s as the crew proceeded into Philadelphia out of Syracuse just before the beginning of this 1963-64 period.
It was in Philadelphia where Hal Greer won his only NBA Championship, as the 76ers defeated the Bill Russell-led Boston Celtics in the 1966-67 Eastern Division Finals, before facing the San Francisco (now Golden State) Warriors in the NBA Finals.
Greer spent his entire 15-year career with the 76ers and was a 10-time All-Star.

The 10-time All-Star remains the 76ers' all-time leader in points, field goals, games, and minutes played. He was also the first Sixers player to be honored with a sculpture on the team's Legends Walk at its training complex a year ago.
Greer was the first player to have his number retired by the 76ers organization when the team retired his No. 15 in 1976.
According to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, which inducted Mr. Greer in 1982, he was the only player to jump shoot his free throws.
The 76ers said they will pay tribute to Greer's life and legacy at Monday night's Game 2 against the Heat in Philadelphia.
The Sixers said Greer was survived by his wife Mayme, a son and two daughters.
