The residence of Supreme Court judge Justice Ejaz ul Ahsan was fired at twice in 12 hours

A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was formed on Sunday to probe the firing incidents at Supreme Court Justice Ijazul Ahsan's Lahore residence.

Opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah said a complete investigation should be carried out into the attack and demanded of the government to take foolproof security measures for judges' security.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar is reported to have reached the residence of Justice Ahsan in the morning and summoned the Punjab Inspector General to probe the case.

As per the preliminary spatial observations by Crime Scene Unit (CSU), the bullet could be stray and on the final stage of its parabolic trajectory fired from a distance, said the report, adding that a search operation has been conducted on the probable direction of the bullet trajectory.

Hours after the incident, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi condemned the incident and directed the authorities to bring the culprits to table as soon as possible.

The cowardly gun attack on the house of Supreme Court's Justice Ijaz-ul-Hassan raked in support for the judge from Pakistan's politicians and army on Sunday.

The top leadership of Pakistan People's Party (PPP), including former president Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto and Faryal Talpur, also released the statements of condemnation over the attack.

Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan was a member of the bench that ruled that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif could not become party chief after his disqualification. The bench had ruled that an individual disqualified under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution can not serve as head of a political party, leading to Nawaz Sharif losing his position as the chief of PML-N.

Justice Ahsan is also the monitoring judge of the ongoing corruption references filed in an accountability court by the National Accountability Bureau against the Sharif family.

Supreme Court judges, including Justice Ijaz, are now in the provincial capital hearing several cases at the apex court's Lahore registry.
