Neymar 'about a month' away from comeback after operation

Neymar is making "excellent" progress in his recovery from injury, Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed.

"I'm still about a month away", the 26-year-old former darling of Barcelona told Brazilian broadcaster TV Globo.

Brazilian PSG's footballer Neymar Junior attends the photocall for the 2018 American Foundation for AIDS Research (amFAR) Gala Sao Paulo in Sao Paulo Brazil on Saturday.

Neymar, 26, hasn't played since sustaining the injury in a February 25 clash with rival Marseille, and PSG manager Unai Emery hopes the dynamic Brazilian will be fit to play for the club again this season.

PSG's campaign has been overshadowed by their defeat against Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League, but they are on course for a clean sweep of the domestic trophies. "Perhaps he'll have time to play a few matches before the end of the season", Emery admitted. Having won the league in three successive seasons, Les Parisiens were previous year dethroned by Leonardo Jardim's team.

The last round of games in the Ligue 1 season are scheduled for May 19, but Neymar faces a race against time to play any part. The Brazilian has been in his home country recovering from a foot operation and PSG are hoping to have him back before the end of the season.

"When he gets here, he will want to play".

PSG have either seven or eight games remaining this season, depending on the result of their Coupe de France semi-final against Caen, and Neymar will be keen to return to action ahead of this summer's World Cup.

The two sides meet in the French top-flight on Sunday evening with PSG knowing that a victory over their league rivals would see them take the title back from Leonardo Jardim's men at the first time of asking.
