Ant McPartlin charged with drink driving, court date confirmed for April 4

Piers Morgan and Phillip Schofield have spoken out against Ant McPartlin. More

"Everyone at ITV and the Takeaway team feels we owe it to the audience to complete the series".

The drink-driving charge is the latest in a string of personal setbacks for McPartlin, whose admission to rehab for several weeks last year was followed, a few months later, by the announcement that his marriage of 11 years to wife Lisa, a make-up artist, had ended.

Ant was "not bailed, but has been released under investigation" Met Police told Metro.co.uk.

Today, Ant's presenting partner, Declan Donnelly, confirmed that a decision had been made, and he would be fronting the show by himself in the aftermath of Sunday's incident.

Panellist Ruth Langsford spoke of McPartlin and Donnelly's "amazing partnership and incredible friendship", and Coleen Nolan added: "Obviously we're all talking about Ant, it's a awful situation, but as well, for me, I was thinking 'oh, poor Dec'".

Ant McPartlin, the TV presenter, has been charged with drink-driving after his arrest on Sunday, prompting his sidekick, Declan Donnelly, to announce that he will host their Saturday Night Takeaway programme without him.

He will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on 4 April, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed.

McPartlin's publicist said in a statement: "Ant has chose to go back into treatment and step down from his current TV commitments".

Metropolitan Police's statement says: "A man has been charged following a road traffic collision in Lower Richmond Road, SW14 that occurred on Sunday, 18 March".

"A number of individuals were treated at the scene for minor injuries".

"The 42-year-old attended a west London police station on Wednesday, 21 March and was interviewed under caution. As such, Saturday Night Takeaway will not be going ahead this Saturday".

An ITV spokesman said on Monday they were "reviewing options" for the remaining two episodes of the series, which will now air as scheduled, but without McPartlin.
