AIIMS doctor among 5 dead in Yamuna Expressway accident near Mathura

Police is now investigating the accident on the Yamuna Expressway that killed the three doctors from AIIMS. Yamuna Expressway, the eight-lane 206 km toll road connecting Greater Noida and Agra reported 1,193 fatalities in 2016. The accident at 2.30 am claimed the lives of Dr Harshad Wankhede (35), Dr Yashpreet (25) and Dr Hembala (25). "Among the injured, Dr Catherin who is from Tripura has head injuries while the others - Jitendra Maurya, Mahesh Kumar and Abhinava Singh - have injuries on their limbs".

According to a report in Financial Express, the six doctors were traveling to celebrate Dr Harshad's birthday before the tragedy struck.

Since the expressway has started, there have been about 4076 accidents till January 2017, in which 548 people have died. The Innova auto was being driven by Dr Harshad and it is possible that he might have fallen asleep behind the wheel.

"The message was also communicated to AIIMS in Delhi after identification of doctors and team of doctors from AIIMS along with ambulances reached Mathura today". The driver was also injured and admitted to AIIMS. The police official said, "The doctors were from emergency medicine department".
