Rabada, de Villiers set up South Africa win

Much of that may be put down to the absence of Kagiso Rabada - South Africa's 11-wicket spearhead in the second Test has been banned for the remainder of the tour after racking up the demerit points in his altercation with Steve Smith.

Rabada was charged with a Level 2 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct and was fined 50 per cent of his match fee and handed three demerit points. That took his total of points after three previous offences to eight and triggered an automatic two-Test ban. "I'm also letting myself down".

South Africa will also have to make a call on Steyn, who sits on 419 test wickets, two behind the country's all-time leader in the five-day game, Shaun Pollock.

Regardless of an appeal, however, Rabada will remain suspended for the third Test in Cape Town unless a Judicial Commissioner is appointed and hears an argument to allow him to complete.

Rabada, 22, already had five demerit points on his disciplinary record and earned three more for "inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with a player" following his clash with Smith.

Crowe detailed in a statement how disappointing it was that Rabada's send-off came one day after the match referee met with both captains.

Rabada said he would need to avoid getting into close proximity with opponents.

"I just said I would like the same to apply to KG".

"I don't know what I am thinking actually".

"I didn't even feel contact in that moment because I was so pumped up". I was just exhausted of playing.

Rabada said it was different from the case against him when he gave Ben Stokes of England a send-off in a Test at Lord's past year, which resulted in a single demerit point which added to a previous three points ruled him out of the next Test.

Gabi urges Antoine Griezmann to honour Atletico Madrid shirt
Sevilla stayed fifth but 11 points behind Valencia in the fight for a Champions League spot next season. I want to reach the final five rounds with chances. "If that happens, we will talk of something else".

"If I knew I had done it deliberately, then I would not have gone to contest". How he has played the game since has been a credit to the man and his teammates around him. And not repeat the same mistake. "I am not happy about it but time moves on", Rabada said.

Rabada pleaded guilty to the second charge of provoking Australia batsman David Warner when he screamed in Warner's face after dismissing him in the second innings.

But an aggressive AB de Villiers cameo took the game away from Australia as he hit four fours and one six in a 26-ball 28.

The 22-year-old Rabada was the outstanding performer on Monday as he ripped through Australia, who started on 180-5 with a 41-run lead.

Warner had at least let his bat do the talking after a week punctuated by the fallout from his altercation with South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock during the first Test.

The latter picked out Ngidi in the deep as he tried to launch spinner Keshav Maharaj (2-90) to the boundary and the innings ended on 239.

Lyon had Dean Elgar (5) caught and bowled with the last ball before lunch and when Hazlewood removed Aiden Markram (21) shortly after the resumption, Australia sensed an opportunity.

Australia won the first test in Durban by 118 runs.

Khawaja almost saw out the day, while Mitchell Marsh also fought bravely to make 39 not out while still recovering from a stomach bug he had on the first day of the game.

De Villiers also passed 8,500 test runs during the innings, the fourth South African after Jacques Kallis, Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla to do that.
