Buhari Writes Senate, Rejects Amended Timetable For 2019 Elections

Earlier in February, the Joint Committees of the National Assembly agreed on some of the amendments to the Electoral Act.

President Muhammadu Buhari has declined assent to the amended 2018 Electoral Act forwarded to him by the National Assembly.

The federal lawmakers want their election to come up first, followed by that of state lawmakers and governors, and lastly the presidential election.

The amendment had passed in both the Senate and the House and its now awaiting Buhari's assent.

The amendment placed Presidential election last in the sequence of elections.

Buhari made this knwon in a letter read by Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, on Tuesday at Tuesday's plenary.
