Why the earth is not flat. Neil deGrasse Tyson destroys flat earthers

Is the Earth Flat Neil de Grasse Tyson

Science may have proved anti-vaxxers, creationists, climate change deniers and flat-Earthers wrong in various ways and with various experiments whose results can be easily reproduced, but they refuse to admit it.

"We have video from space of the rotating spherical Earth".

Since Neil deGrasse Tyson's big claim to fame is how he can break down astrophysics into laymen's terms, he's had to address the claim that Earth is flat on more than one occasion for the laymen who believe it.

What is completely extraordinary is the fact that these flat-earthers believe that all other celestial bodies are round except for the earth. If Earth were flat, sometimes you'd get a flat shadow. But if you want more logic, Tyson's latest StarTalk YouTube video with co-host Chuck Nice has some good pointers.

He says the rise of flat earth theory indicates two things: the right to free speech, and America's "failed education system".

Neil deGrasse Tyson blames the educational system in the US for the perpetuation of the flat Earth theory because he doesn't think it teaches critical thinking skills. Our system needs to train you not only what to know but how to think about information and knowledge and evidence.

Aqib Talib Rejected Trade To 49ers Before Going To Rams
Talib also has a Super Bowl win to his credit in 10 seasons to go along with five Pro Bowls and one first-team All-Pro selection. Unfortunately, Talib didn't want to play for the 49ers and he rejected the deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter .

First, a lunar eclipse is a natural evidence supporting Earth's spherical shape. Late past year, hundreds of people who believe Earth is flat attended the first annual Flat Earth International Conference, The Economist reported. And, two, we live in a country with a failed educational system.

So why does it seem like more and more people are subscribing to the flat Earth theory? To test this theory, flat-Earthers can simply look up in the sky during the next lunar eclipse.

If three deep wells are dug at three different positions, and the sun is overhead the well in the middle, it would be visible to the bottom. He also pointed out that when a ship sails away across the horizon, it eventually disappears because it drops below the horizon as it travels around Earth.

A ship would never go out of sight if the earth's surface was flat. At noon, when the sun is directly over your head, try looking at the bottom of the well. With three wells in different locations, the angles of incoming sunlight would all be different and can be measured to suggest a curved Earth.

One would think that ideas like "the Earth is round" wouldn't be controversial at this point.

"Something doesn't square here", he said. He noted that the other planets in our solar system are also spheres, explaining that it's due to the laws of physics, which favor spherical shapes whenever bodies are forming in space.
