Applebee's restaurants across the country were impacted by a data breach, including several in the Miami Valley.

Applebee's, which was already having a pretty lousy 2018, is warning customers in 15 states that their credit card information might be at risk.

According to a press release, the incident has since been contained, and guests may use their cards with confidence at the RMH Applebee's locations that were affected by this incident. The incident initially was discovered on February 13, according to the firm, after which an investigation was launched. Although the exact dates vary by location, in most cases this incident could potentially have affected purchases between December 6, 2017 and January 2, 2018.

Point of sale malware has affected other restaurant chains; Arby's, Chipotle, Shoney's and Wendy's have all recently been hit by attacks, according to Infosecurity Magazine. "As of today a lot of stores are playing catch up with security, and it can take months or years to realize that compromises have happened on third party systems". It did not notify customers until last week-and did not offer to pay for any credit protection services for affected customers.
