Marion Marechal-Le Pen: 'France Is No Longer Free'

Trump at CPAC

Marion Maréchal-Le Pen, one of the leading faces of France's hard-right National Front party, celebrated the ties between the two countries and their right-wing nationalist movements.

On immigration and Islam, Marechal-Le Pen said: "France is in the process of passing from [being] the eldest daughter of the Catholic Church to the little niece of Islam".

While Le Pen has over the past months softened her anti-EU, anti-euro comments, Marechal-Le Pen lambasted the bloc, which she said was "slowly killing" ancient nations.

Prior to announcing she was taking a break from politics, Marechal-Le Pen had hinted at dissatisfaction with the internal party politicking and her relationship with both Marine Le Pen and the party's deputy chairman Florian Philippot, who has taken the FN in a more "social" direction to the chagrin of its more conservative wing.

Senior editor of National Review Jonah Goldberg who accused Ms. Le Pen of being a "statist", while the "Reagan Battalion" Twitter account denounced Le Pen as having "NOTHING" to do with conservatism - all of which led to Breitbart running a gloating headline: "Establishment right-wingers in meltdown over marion le pen invite to CPAC".

"I'm not offended when I hear President Donald Trump say "America first". In doing so, she said she wanted to see France adopt the nationalist-populist slogans that President Trump uses. Marechal-Le Pen has been touted as a future leader of the party despite her decision to retire from politics a year ago. Some observers have touted Marechal-Le Pen as a future FN leader.

Marechal-Le Pen will be the second headliner to appear on the first full day of speeches at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, addressing the event shortly after Vice President Mike Pence.

Her hardline stance on immigration, Islam and abortion commands a loyal grassroots following, but her party has recently shut down speculation that the young scion of the Le Pen family was making a political comeback. "Our freedom is now in the hands of the European Union".

"The result is the development of Islamic society in France".

Why the speech matters: Marechal-Le Pen withdrew from the political limelight previous year after her aunt lost the second-round presidential run-off to Macron.

"Vive la France!" an attendee shouted out.
