Google Chrome starts blocking annoying ads from websites

The choice of which ads to block will be determined by the Coalition for Better Ads (CBA) - made up of companies including Google and Facebook.

Google is launching a built-in blocker in Chrome that is created to filter out ads it says repeatedly violate standards put out by the Coalition of Better Ads.

A survey of 40,000 U.S. and European web users found that the most intrusive ads were full-page ads that hide the content of a web page and flashing animated ads, according to a blog by Chris Bentzel at Google.

Chrome is far and away the most popular browser on the web: it is used for 56 percent of all accessed pages.

Chrome will send email to the site owners about their status. According to Net Market Share, in January, Chrome had a 59% market share of all laptops, desktop computers and mobile devices. While some people are definitely going to notice this, some may not even get to know that there is an ad blocking update in Chrome browser, which is going live tomorrow.

The Canadian Press also reported that Verheul said the USA proposal might be the worst ever put down at a negotiating table. He's threatening to quit and initially wanted a deal by December but talks could now potentially stretch into 2019.

Sites with unacceptable ad formats-annoying ads like pop-ups, auto-playing video ads with sound and flashing animated ads-will receive a warning that they're in violation of the standards. Yes, pop-up ads are blocked, and Google will be informing you with a pop-up notification. Chrome hopes this will lead to fewer users feeling the need to install ad-blockers that block every ad on every site regardless of if the publisher follows the standards or not.

"The Web is an ecosystem composed of consumers, content producers, hosting providers, advertisers, Web designers, and many others".

"We've already seen more and more people express their discontent with annoying ads by installing ad blockers,", said Google's vice president of Chrome Rahul Roy-Chowdhury, "but blocking all ads can hurt sites or advertisers who aren't doing anything disruptive".

"We want the web to be a place where businesses can thrive and make revenue, but also a place where users can have a good experience", said Ryan Schoen, Google's product manager for web platform work at Chrome.
