The finding was made using data collected by Nasa'sKepler Space Telescope, a planet hunter that has spotted more than 2,500 confirmed exoplanets since its launch in 2009. Going through all the data to manually locate any signs of new planets out in the void is quite hard, but the researchers at Google are working to change that.
In a paper posted at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, researchers Christopher Shallue and Andrew Vanderburgexplained how they trained a neural network, a computing system that mimics the way the human brain works, to sift through the massive quantities of Kepler data and "pick out" signals indicating the presence of exoplanets. The latter, a scorching, rocky mass 30 percent larger than Earth, is the eighth planet found to be orbiting the same star.
The Kepler system is an nearly picture-perfect image of our own with inner rocky planets and outer gaseous giants, NASA have said, but its capacity for life is not as high.
After four years of scanning the same patch of sky, the Kepler is now operating on an extended mission and switching its field of view every 80 days. That makes Kepler-90 the only solar system besides our own that has eight planets orbiting a single star. "You have small planets inside and big planets outside, but everything is scrunched in much closer". NASA joined with Google on Thursday to announce the finding.
To make this possible, the team took advantage of a database of up to 15,000 Kepler signals, which are known to be binary stars or exoplanets floating around in space, to train a system designed for machine learning.
Physicians Realty Trust (DOC) Ameritas Investment Partners Inc. increased its position in shares of Physicians Realty Trust by 11.3% in the first quarter. Castleark Management Llc sold 70,385 shares as the company's stock rose 58.84% with the market. (NYSE: ESRT ) is 0.037806.
"The James Webb Space Telescope, launching in 2019, will be the first step toward that goal". This shows that there really are benefits to employing machine learning as a technique for searching the cosmos for interesting research subjects without the need for a human to slog through thousands of signals in order to find a few interesting stars that warrant a closer look.
And although the planet marks a fascinating discovery, it's likely not a place that future generations will want to explore.
"We got lots of false positives of planets, but also potentially more real planets", added Vanderburg, who plans to apply the neural network to Kepler's full set of more than 150,000 stars.
Remember NASA's Kepler Mission? Similarly, the larger and more gaseous planets in the Kepler-90 system are farther away from the parent star, quite similar to the relation between Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus with the sun.
Our solar system had nine planets until Pluto was demoted to a dwarf planet in 2006 by the International Astronomical Union, a decision that still stands.
Stock repurchase plans are typically an indication that the company's management believes its shares are undervalued. After $-0.04 actual EPS reported by 8×8, Inc. for the previous quarter, Wall Street now forecasts 0.00% EPS growth.
Several use cases are highlighted including extending the display across both surfaces for increased screen real estate. The diagram also shows an on-screen virtual keyboard and trackpad, again suggesting multi-use scenarios for this device.
The NWS also issued a gale watch for coastal waters of New Jersey beginning Friday night and lasting through Saturday morning. Friday starts out clear and cold on Long Island, but snow moves in just before the evening commute, forecasters said.
Some will also be required to start a public relations campaign to discourage their citizens from overstaying their visits. The program allows citizens of mainly European countries to travel to the United States for up to 90 days without a visa.
Even Sarah Chalke , who took the place of Goranson in 1993, will reportedly be back for a new mystery role. The subsequent eight episodes will last the traditional 30 minutes, running from 8 to 8:30 p.m.
Moving averages are considered to be lagging indicators, and they may prove to be very useful for spotting peaks and troughs. NBR is already driving a -64.73% loss over the course of the past year and is now down -65.98% since this point in 2017.
Nugroho said strong tremors had been felt for about 20 seconds in Jakarta and in cities and villages in western and central Java. The 6.5 magnitude quake had a depth of about 91km and was located just inland, the US Geological Survey said.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are not yet clear and police have not revealed whether the incident was terror related. "Man shot by the military police at Schiphol Airport after he threatened [people] with a knife", the force said on Twitter.
Just under $60,000 had been raised through kettles as of December 15, about $6,000 short of the same point previous year . She said that if there isn't an increase, she expects that they'll fall short by about $15,000 on kettle donations.

Jets are keeping Muhammad Wilkerson at home
Like many Jets tales of recent memory, Wilkerson's journey in The Big Apple will end on a tragic note after spurring so much hope. "Okay?" Morton said after practice in Florham Park, as the Jets prepared for a contest at the Saints this weekend.
