MSNBC Admits It Screwed Up, Will Re-Hire Sam Seder

"Don't care re Polanski, but I hope if my daughter is ever raped it is by an older truly talented man w/a great sense of mise en scene", Seder tweeted. Seder told the Washington Post earlier in the week that he reached out to Errol Cockfield, senior vice president of communications at MSNBC, after he saw his 2009 tweet resurface. Previously, the network said it would let his contract run out. "I'm proud that MSNBC and its staff have set a clear example of the need to get it right".

As Common Dreams reported on Tuesday, MSNBC's initial decision not to renew Seder's contract was fiercely condemned by journalists and other commentators, who argued that the move would set a unsafe precedent and embolden right-wing provocateurs like Mike Cernovich, the pro-Trump conspiracy theorist who led the effort to get Seder fired.

After breaking up with one of its commentators over an old tweet dripping with cynicism - but also a rape gag - MSNBC has had a change of heart and announced Thursday it has welcomed Sam Seder back with open arms.

The network caved to the outraged horde's demands, and cut ties with Seder as of Monday. And many journalists were appalled that the network would capitulate to Cernovich and his misreading of the tweet.

Mr. Cernovich did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"I wrote that tweet out of disgust with those who were excusing or were seeking to advocate forgiveness for Polanski's actions which caused him to flee the US", Seder said in the email, according to CNN.

During his podcast, "The Majority Report with Sam Seder", last week, Mr. Seder attacked the "Nazi alt-right" for taking his tweet out of context. He planned on using a portion of the proceeds to produce a short film detailing Cernovich's background.
