One man and one woman were killed and two others injured on Thursday night in a knife attack in Tokyo, local police said.

Tomioka then fatally stabbed his girlfriend and committed suicide with the weapon used in the attack, according to the police, who reached the scene of the crime after receiving calls from residents.
Shigenaga Tomioka, 56, is suspected of having attacked his 58-year-old sister Nagako Tomioka, the chief priest of the Tomioka Hachimangu shrine, the Metropolitan Police Department said.
The four were sent to a hospital, where the three were confirmed dead. However, he was pursued over a distance of about 100 meters by Shigenaga's girlfriend, who was wielding the Japanese sword. The driver suffered injuries to his right arm and chest, though they were not life-threatening.

The two attackers then moved to the shrine premises, where the Shigenaga Tomioka stabbed his accomplice in the chest and stomach and then stabbed himself in the left side of the chest multiple times.
The assailant, identified as 56-year-old Shigenaga Tomioka, attacked his 58-year-old sister sister Nagako Tomioka, the shrine's chief priestess, with a Samurai sword and killed her after she got off from a chauffeur-driven vehicle.
According to an acquaintance of a family member, Shigenaga was the chief priest of the shrine until he was dismissed about 10 years ago.
The Tomioka Hachimangu shrine, established in 1627, is known for its Fukagawa Hachiman summer festival and its golden portable shrines. The shrine left the association on September 28 this year.
