British Foreign Secretary Johnson to travel to Iran this weekend - Guardian newspaper

Stanley Johnson says he's lost 9 kilos after I’m A Celebrity as he makes gaffe about Boris

Boris Johnson will urge Iran to free British-Iranian woman Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe from jail when he visits Tehran. She denies the charges.

Johnson was to arrive in Muscat on Friday for the start of a three-day visit to Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Iran.

He will also discuss British concerns over Iranian involvement in conflicts in the Middle East, especially in Syria and Yemen.

The British-Iranian mother has been imprisoned in the country's capital, Tehran, for nearly two years after being arrested during a family holiday.

"We expect talks to cover a wide range of issues from the bilateral relationship to regional security", the spokesman said.

Since then he has met Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe's husband, Richard Ratcliffe, about calls for her to be provided her with diplomatic protection.

Mr Johnson provoked outcry last month after telling a parliamentary select committee that the Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe had been "training journalists" in Iran - a claim that could lead to her jail term being doubled to ten years.

Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested during a family holiday, a trip in which the 38-year-old was showing her baby daughter Gabriella to her parents.

Zaghari-Ratcliffe's fate become a major political issue in Britain after Johnson made remarks on November 1 that appeared to cast doubt on statements from her employer about what she had been doing in Iran.
