Paramount Announces Release Date of ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK Reboot

Paramount will release Are You Afraid of the Dark? based on the Canadian/Nickelodeon 1990s aired anthology series on October 11, 2019.

"Are You Afraid of the Dark?" was created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel and ran as an anthology series on Nickelodeon between 1992 and 1996. The new film will be written by Gary Dauberman, most known for writing this past summer's hit IT.

Dauberman is a co-writer on "It" with Chase Palmer and Cary Fukunaga.

Airing for seven seasons, Are You Afraid of the Dark? centered on a group of teenagers nicknamed the "Midnight Society", who would meet in the woods to tell terrifying tales. Each episode focused on a new scary campfire story, which was "submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society", and usually focused on all kinds of supernatural spooks from ghosts to witches.

"The show is about the shared experience of telling stories - especially scary ones". Paramount is producing in conjunction with Nickelodeon Movies.

The Are You Afraid of the Dark? movie is now slated to open opposite Warner Bros'. adaptation of Donna Tartt's The Goldfinch.
