U.S. President Donald Trump is due to formally recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital later on Wednesday and begin preparations to move the embassy from Tel Aviv, three senior U.S. officials confirmed late Tuesday.

The Kremlin is concerned about a possible deterioration of the situation in the Middle East if Jerusalem is recognized as the capital of Israel by the US, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday.

The Palestinian leaders consider East Al Quds, occupied and then annexed by Israel in 1967, as the capital of the State for which they aspire.

He was also reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating no decision would be able to alter Jerusalem's identity or forge its history. According to the Oslo Accords it is classified as Area B which is administered by both Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

Palestinian officials have said that moving the embassy would scuttle attempts to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks led by Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said the Palestinian cabinet slammed Trump's decision as violating all relevant United Nations resolutions.

Al-Ayyam highlighted a letter that was sent by the heads of churches in Jerusalem to Trump regarding the status of Jerusalem before he took his decision.
