Flynn told a business associate Russian sanctions would be 'ripped up'

Flynn told associate Russia sanctions would be ‘ripped up’ early in Trump presidency

Michael Flynn sent a text to a business partner as President Donald Trump was delivering his inaugural address last January that a joint plan between Russian Federation and Flynn's business allies to build nuclear power plants in the Middle East was "good to go".

On December 29, the day the Obama administration imposed new sanctions and expelled 35 Russian diplomats from the U.S. in retaliation for Moscow's election meddling, Flynn called Kislyak and asked that Russia not escalate the situation, according to court documents.

Cummings did not identify the witness, whom he described as a whistleblower.

Flynn's lawyer did not respond to a request for comment on the latest claims. The administration has not lifted sanctions on Russian Federation. Congress later passed a bipartisan measure that placed new sanctions on Russian Federation, a bill that Trump reluctantly signed in August.

Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general and former high-ranking intelligence officer, pleaded guilty last week to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his discussions with the then-Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, about the sanctions that day after they were imposed.

According to the account, the unnamed whistleblower ran into Copson at a party in Washington, D.C. on inauguration day. The texts were timestamped as being sent just as President Trump was delivering his Inaugural Address, the whistleblower said.

This whistleblower has reportedly claimed that during an inauguration day conversation with Alex Copson (the aforementioned associate), Copson said this was "the start of something I've been working on for years, and we are good to go".

Mr Copson showed his phone with the text message to the whistle-blower, who saw that the time stamp of the message was 12:11, but didn't read the text.

In the letter, Mr. Cummings appeared to try to anticipate an argument that Mr. Gowdy might make - that he can not investigate the whistle-blower's claims as long as Mr. Flynn was still under investigation by Mr. Mueller's team.

Six months earlier, Copson had paid Flynn US$25,000, (RM102,075) to travel to the Middle East to help promote his scheme, and was excited about the possibility that it would move ahead.

He also said he finds the whistle-blower to be "authentic, credible and reliable", and someone who has come forward even though he fears retaliation because "he feels duty bound as a citizen to make this disclosure".

The whistleblower was "extremely uncomfortable" with the situation, and made notes about it and Copson's name.

Mr Cummings wrote that Mr Mueller's team asked lawmakers to hold off on a public release of this information until certain investigative steps were taken.

Cummings said that the whistleblower's allegations raise concerns that Flynn improperly aided the nuclear project after joining the White House as one of Trump's top security officials.

Minutes after Trump had been sworn in, Copson told the whistleblower that he had received a text message from Flynn saying that they were "good to go" and to contact his other partners to "let them know to put things in place".
